New Simulation Technology, SimPort™, Cuts Development Time and Cost in Half for MGMA
DENVER, December 19, 2007— Regis Learning Solutions (RLS), a leading provider of tailored and custom business simulations, has partnered with The Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) to create an online simulation tool that offers a comprehensive learning experience for medical practice administrators and students. The newly revised tool, called Virtual Practice Manager 2.0, lets participants experience the challenges common to running a medical practice over a simulated three-year period. The tool’s new functionality allows participants to customize their level of involvement, better understand the impact of their decisions, and repeat the process multiple times to promote continual learning from their own mistakes and successes. The simulation offers hands-on, lifelike experience without risk to a real-life medical practice.
“There is no question as to the power of a simulation in learning,” said Bill Probeck, online education manager at MGMA. “We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from medical practice professionals across the board, and only expect their enthusiasm to increase as we roll out the latest version of the simulation.”
The newest version of the simulation was created using the RLS simulation portal – SimPort™ – a technology that is changing the way the industry creates simulations. Though simulations have been sweeping the training industry over the last several years, some executives have been slow to welcome the method into their training programs, typically citing four major concerns: cost, development time, maintenance, and validity. “SimPort™ erases those big four fears,” said Michael Vaughan, COO of Regis Learning Solutions.
SimPort™ provides a basic simulation framework, into which designers “plug-in” a company’s unique characteristics, creating a simulation that closely resembles a company’s real-life work environment. Beginning with a framework such as SimPort™ drastically reduces the time required to create a simulation, as well as the cost. The SimPort™ set-up also makes it easy to alter and maintain a simulation as time passes. “We’re not losing any ground on quality,” Vaughan explained, “we’re just able to serve our clients more quickly and affordably.”
